Obsessing over Floating Shelves

Lately I have been obsessing over floating shelves. I just love them. I could probably put them in every room in our house. Here are a few that are inspiring me...

The above site includes a DIY for making those beautiful chunky shelves. Love the styling on these shelves as well.
Same source, another great styling/use of floating shelves. I love how this has feminine aspects, but is balanced by the metal orbs, and the bull.

And since Caitlin from Desert Domicile is so great at styling these shelves, here's a little how to.

Now I just have to narrow down how I will use this in our house.

What do you think of floating shelves? Have you used them in your house?

Top Ten Essentials for a Tropical Vacation

As I prepare for our trip to MEXICO (so excited), I have been thinking about all the things I need to remember to pack. Key word: remember. Or the things I need to buy before we jet off. Here are my Top 10 Essentials for a Tropical Vacation.

1. A great hat- I love this one by Volcom, it is definitely tropical and super cute. Whether you choose a big floppy hate, or a regular old baseball cap having a hat to keep the sun off your head is a necessity.

2. Sandals - I love these Volcom flip flops, I bought the exact ones at an outlet store in Vegas last year and wore them almost every day last summer. I love, love, love them. So much so, I would be tempted to buy them in every colour.

3. eReader - My Kobo Mini comes with me everywhere! Including the beach. The mini is the perfect size for someone on the go, and it is a great price. I think I paid $50 for mine.  It's so easy to load a variety of books to keep you entertained while laying out on the beach.

4. Sunscreen - I am terrible at putting sunscreen on. I usually choose a mist, like Banana Boat Mist, so I don't miss a spot. Trust me, I have had some very bad tan lines in the past, can you say one big hand print across my stomach? Yup.

5. Insulated cup for beverages - This Starbucks cup is so easy to drink from, your just sipping and all of a sudden your cups empty (this is great for water, probably not alcoholic beverages though :) )

6. A good pair of sunnies - I have last years model of these, Coach Sunglasses. I love this style, and they are so hard to find now a days. I guess one day I will have to catch up to the trend. One day...

7. A great tote bag - If your up to a DIY check out this cute tote from Style me Pretty.

8. A great nail colour - I am loving pastel colours lately, especially this colour from Essie.

9. Okay I don't know why this is so far down on the list, how can I forget having an amazing swim suit? Anyways, I love the styles from Victoria's Secret. Since the prices are pretty reasonable it makes it easy to buy trendy swim suits that may not be in the style next year.  AND this colour matches the nail polish.

10. A light sweater - Like this one from Forever 21, because even on a tropical vacation it can still get chilly.

The Wish List January 2014

1. Garden Stool / Belle and June / $196
I am totally in love with garden stools, if it wasn't for the price I would put them everywhere. Living room, office, on the deck and they come in so many colours. I am searching for a decently priced stool, so if you see one let me know.

2. Heart Tank / Aritzia / $14 (on sale)
I love this tank! Perfect for Valentines day, and just super cute. And the price, $14 I really should buy this before it is too late.

3. Bullet Stud Earrings / ShellsNStuff / $25
I have been drooling over these Bullet Stud Earrings for months, I probably should bite the bullet (pun intended) and buy these. One day...

4. Pintuck Duvet Cover / West Elm / $91-128 (on sale)
There is no possible way I will ever be able to own this, but a girl can dream! With two dogs constantly "digging" in the covers I am sure this would rip immediately. Either way I love the style.

5. Mixed Media Shag Rug / Urban Outfitters / $14-74 (on sale)
I love, love, love this rug. I have no idea where I would put it though. It's on sale so I probably pick it up now rather than later. Maybe it could go under the sink cabinet like in Rhi from Hey Gorgeous Events home tour?

New Year, New Goals + FREE Printable

I feel like 2013 was a whirlwind, one where I could never catch up, was constantly unorganized and I missed achieving my goals because of it. 2014 is going to be different though. Initially I didn't know where to start. I mean, 2013 was all over the place I needed to be grounded, start with reflection, and create manageable/doable goals. I searched high and low, looking for the solution. One day, while complaining that I couldn't find the right solution to help me choose this years direction a friend said to me "why don't you create your own solution?".

So here it is, my first step towards finding a path for 2014, the FREE Printable Appreciation Worksheet. A worksheet that helps you reflect on the year past, and draft some simple goals for the year ahead. This "appreciation" worksheet will start as a basis for creating your new goals, and act as a reminder for where you are going and where you have been.

I hope it helps you start as much as it helped me.
